Univ. Prof. Dr. Gerhard Freilinger

   I was born on November 24th 1927 as son of Dr. Franz and Sophie Freilinger in Linz, Upper Austria. After primary school I visited Gymnasium in Linz. At the age of 15 in 1942 I was called to the military service. Prisoner of war in Yugoslavia at the age of 17 for one year. Final examinations of Gymnasium in Linz 1947.
   Study of medicine in Innsbruck 1947 - 1954, Doctor´s Degree February 20th, 1954.
   One year at the Department of Dermatology in Innsbruck till March 1955, following this one year at the Department of Surgery, University Clinic Innsbruck. Receiving on Austrian-American scholarship I worked nearly two years in United States. Plastic surgical training at University of Iowa Washington, University of St. Louis, University of Texas Galvaston, Columbia and Cornell University New York.
   Since 1957 Second Surgical University Clinic Vienna.
   1971 Associate Prof. Univ. Vienna.
   1975 a.o. Prof. and head of Department of Plastic Surgery, Second Surgical University Clinic Vienna.
   200 scientific publications, Editor of several books and scientific films.
   Since 1967 engaged in many war casualties as a reconstructive surgeon, expert of chemical warfare (Vietnam, Afghanistan, Iran, Sudan, Angola, Uganda, Albania, Yugoslavia).
   Since 1995 chairman of Austro-Russian MYOSTIM Project.
   1989 Golden Medal award for contributions of the Republic of Austria.
