Mark S. BELAKOVSKY

   Ph.D, MD
   head of Department for Promotion of Space Biomedicine Achievements, corresponding member of Tsiolkovsky's Academy of Cosmonautics.
   Was born in 1947. Graduated from the First Moscow Medical Institute in 1972. Has been attached to the Institute of Biomedical Problems since 1975. Was appointed Head of Department in 1988.
   The field of expertise of Dr. Belakovsky is nutrition, and human metabolism in various environments. He participated in biomedical support to Soyuz, orbital stations Salyut and Mir missions, research on biosatellites, preparation for the Polar scientific/sport expeditions sponsored by newspaper "Komsomolskaya Pravda", the first Soviet alpine expedition to the Everest, an expedition to the Kara-Kum desert, and the Russian sportsmen taking part in Olympic Games, World and European championships.
   In 1988 he took course in International Business at the Academy of Foreign Trade. Since 1988 Belakovsky has been responsible for negotiating foreign contracts on cooperation in space and related projects, and public relations.
   Belakovsky has been awarded the title of Man of Honor in the Russian Health Service, and Gagarin's and Korolev's medals.
   Results of Belakovsky's research were presented in more than130 publications, including:
